Pierce is standing between his daughters, who are each holding one of Pierce’s arms. The number 4 is written on the negative and is visible in the lower left corner of the image. A similar image, No. 379G0163, was published on Page 2 of the Oregon Journal city edition on Tuesday, January 9, 1923, under the headline “Old and New Faces to Be Seen at Oregon State Capital.” Pierce was inaugurated as governor of Oregon on January 8, 1923.
