Ross Island Bridge from Hood Street

Photograph of the Ross Island Bridge in Portland, taken from Hood Street below the bridge. This photograph was one of four published on Page 1 of the Oregon Journal on December 21, 1926, the day the bridge was dedicated. The photographs were published under the headline “Another Bridge Spans the Flood.” This photograph had the following caption information: “Hood street, passing under the west approach.” The photographs accompanied a story with the headline, “$1,950,000 Ross Island Bridge Open.”

Street in downtown Edinburg, Texas

Photograph looking up a wide street in downtown Edinburg, Texas. The street is lined with stores and shops. Edinburg is home to some migrant farm workers who drive to Oregon every year for work. This image was published in the Valley Migrant League's Opportunity News on February 17, 1967.

The View Restaurant

This photograph depicts a street scene outside The View Restaurant and Kenton Mercantile Company in North Portland. Multiple Model T Fords are parked on the street, and a trolley is visible in the background. The trolley ran down Denver Avenue, and this is likely the intersection of Denver Avenue and Kilpatrick Street. The building with rounded windows in the background is the Kenton Bank Building, located at 8203 North Denver Avenue. At the time this photograph was taken, the trolley would have been operated by the Portland Railway, Light and Power Company.
