Biographical history
Nancy Elizabeth Stevens, nee Rogers, was born in Portland, Oregon, in 1923. In 1943, she and Howard Scholz were married; Scholz was later killed in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After the war, she and Rodney David Stevens were married; they later had four children. Her family once lived on land that later became Blue Lake Regional Park in Fairview, Oregon; prior to the arrival of Euro-Americans, the area was the home of Nichaqwli people, a band of the Chinook. Stevens was an activist against the construction of the Mount Hood Freeway, served as president of Portland Beautification and ran for seats in the state Legislature and as a Multnomah County commissioner. She died in 2021.
