Biographical history
Bodie McDowell was born in Greenwood, South Carolina. He was the outdoor editor for the Greensboro News & Record until retiring in 1992. He then worked as the public information officer for the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission until 2000. The Bodie Bass, a hybrid of the white bass and striped bass, was named after him in 1988. He served as president of the Outdoor Writers Association of America, and a scholarship from that organization is named in his honor. In 2008, he was inducted into the Guilford County Sports Hall of Fame.

Scope and content
This interview with Bodie McDowell was conducted by Monty Ray around 1970. It aired on KDUN radio on the program "The Great Outdoors." In this interview, McDowell discusses fishing in the rivers and lakes of North Carolina, a pastime he calls "Hot Hole Fishing" because the waterways were artificially warmed by factory runoff.
