SP&S Stencil Built by Northern Pacific

Negatives documenting company activities, including electrical infrastructure, employees, power generation and distribution throughout Portland, the Willamette Valley and the Oregon Cascade Range. Additional general images include streetcars and trains, street lighting, power line installation, Rose Festival floats, office buildings, car barns and bridges. Of particular note are dam building projects at Bull Run and along the Clackamas River (1910-1930), and early electric stations in Oregon City at Willamette Falls.

Portland Zoo Railway Station at the 1959 Oregon Centennial Exposition

Photograph of the Portland Zoo Railway station at the 1959 Oregon Centennial Exposition grounds in North Portland. Today, this is the site of the Portland Expo Center. A sign on top the building reads "Oregon Railroads" and there are smaller signs for Spokane, Portland & Seattle Ry., Northern Pacific Railway, Union Pacific Railroad and other rail lines. A small portion of the Zooliner train is visible on the left. The Oregon state flag flies above the building.

Several buildings are clustered together in the distance. In the background, the Willamette River and Downtown Portland are visible. It is taken from a boardwalk or raised sidewalk. The photograph is mounted on a grey mat that was once bound into an album. Handwritten text below the photograph reads "East Portland, Ore. Feb-5-90". The photograph was taken in February, 1890, when excessive rain and unusually warm weather caused the Willamette and Columbia Rivers to flood.

Train tracks running through a forest that were damaged in a forest fire outside Silverton, Oregon. The wooden railroad ties are charred and the metal rails are warped and bent. The surrounding trees are also burned.
