Cascade Highway bridge crossing at Milk Creek, Mulino

An automobile seen from the back parked on the right side of a gravel road approaching a bridge over Milk Creek in Mulino. Howard's Gristmill, built in 1851, and a cluster of other buildings are seen on the other side of the bridge. This photograph is part of a series in which Drake follows Gordon J. Taylor around the valley snapping photos of his Pontiac along a series of dirt roads to document Taylor’s survey of the proposed Cascade Highway. Taylor and other locals formed the Cascade Highway Association in 1928 to advocate for a highway to connect all the Willamette Valley towns from Oregon City to Eugene. Taylor’s excursion along with Drake’s photographs were published in the Sunday Oregon Journal on October 14, 1928.
