Scope and content
Full-length portrait of a smiling man and woman standing in front of a biplane in a hangar. The text “Mr + Mrs Crawford 6/18/35” is written on the negative and is faintly visible on the left side of the image. A cropped version of this photograph was published on the front page of the Oregon Journal on Tuesday, June 18, 1935, under the headline “Descendant of State’s Great.” The photograph had the following caption: “Mr. and Mrs. Robert Crawford at Portland airport ready to continue their honeymoon flight over the airways. Crawford is the grandson of two Oregon pioneers who voted to bring Oregon into the U. S.” The photograph accompanied a story, headlined “Operatic Air Pilot Zooms In For Visit,” about the Robert Crawford, a musician known as the “flying baritone.”
