Uncased tintype featuring a portrait of a woman wearing a dark-colored hat and dress. She crosses her arms and looks at the camera. Handwritten note on the front of the image reads, "Mrs. Mary Robinson Gilkey." Handwritten note on the back of the image reads, "Taken September 13, 1869." Second handwritten note on the back reads, "Born in Yamhill County March 7, 1846. Her father and mother were pioneers of 1844. First girl born in that county. Teacher for a number of years before marriage." Legacy collection records note, "1st (of 2) woman to climb Mt. Hood, 8/26/67." [Gilkey climbed Mt. Hood with Frances Case Moreland Harvey.]
