Jacobs, Ralph

Ralph Jacobs, co-founder of the Oregon City Woolen Mills. He and his brother, Isaac, were immigrants from Germany, who settled in Oregon City during the 1850s.

Handwritten note enclosed with the image reads, "Ralph Jacobs founder of Oregon City Woolen Mills." Case is made of wood and pressed paper. Case cover was replaced with archival board during conservation.

A girl sits in front of them, wearing a coat and hat. Handwritten note on the back of the image reads, "Ralph Jacobs, Woolen Mill executive, his wife and daughter Miriam - Resided at SW Park and Montgomery in Portland." Second handwritten note reads, "Ralph Jacobs, wife Flora, daughter Miriam, circa 1890." Stamp on the back of the image for Applegate's Galleries, Atlantic City.

His wife sits in a chair on the left, wearing a dress and hat. Her hands are in a fur muff on her lap. A girl sits between them. Two older girls and a boy stand behind them. Handwritten note on the back of the image reads, "Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Jacobs & 4 of 5 children. Resided in 1880's and '90's on - at SW Park & Montgomery Streets in Portland." Legacy collection records indicate that their eldest daughter, Minnie, died in 1876 at age 4.

The man on the right wears a jacket and rests his right elbow on a tree stump. Handwritten note affixed to the back of the image reads, "Seated in middle is Mr. Ralph Jacobs, a founder of Oregon City Woolen Mills. He & brother Isaac lived on SW Park between Montgomery & Mill Streets."

His brother, Isaac, built large houses (torn down) where Lone Plaza now stands."

Handwritten note on the sleeve reads, "Acc. no. 12451 - Donald Bradford."
