Photograph showing two unidentified women crouching in front of a display of certificates for donations to the United War Chest. They are facing each other and holding up a framed certificate. The honor roll certificates were part of a “Memo for Joe” campaign to encourage donations to the United War Chest. Contributors of $10 or more received the certificate, which featured a space for the donor to write the name of the serviceman in whose honor the contribution was made. Donors could keep the certificate or mail it to the honoree. The certificate also included a stub for the donor’s information, which was used to create a community honor roll book that was displayed at the central library in Portland. Image note: The number 4613 is written on the negative and is visible in the upper left corner of the image. See related image No. 375A0895.
