Swing-shift workers performing at Playhouse Theatre, Portland

Photograph showing six unidentified musicians sitting on a stage. At left, an unidentified man is standing at a microphone. The number 20 is written on the negative and is visible in the lower right corner of the image. The unverified note “Albina shipbuilding / Swing shift / Playhouse Theatre / 1/16/43” is written on the negative sleeve. The photograph was probably taken at a vaudeville show performed by workers from Albina Engine & Machine Works and Commercial Iron Works in Portland. A short preview of the show was published on Page 4, Section 2, of the Oregon Journal on Friday, January 15, 1943: “SHIPYARD SHOW–Even the national War Labor board has set its seal of approval on the Albina-Commercial swing shift show slated for 1:30 a.m. Saturday at the Playhouse.
