Students on a wooden stairwell at the old Lents School in Portland. Another set of stairs leads up to second floor on either side of the stairwell. The use of the building was discontinued in 1950 after a new school was built at S.E. 97th Avenue and S.E. Steele. Starr block at Southwest Pine Street and Southwest Front Avenue, in Portland

Photograph showing the four-story Starr Block building, at the corner of SW Pine and SW From Avenue (now SW Naito Parkway area). Decorative molding can be seen around the windows and doors, and “Starr” is written along the top floor. A smaller building next to the Starr block shows a sign for “Defiance Tea & Coffee Co.” The Starr block was demolished in 1942, and is currently the site of Tom McCall Waterfront Park (negative 3 of 11).

Snow at Government Camp, Mount Hood

Shively Opera house auction, Oregon City

An unidentified man points toward a painted wall at the Shively Opera House in Oregon City. The contents of the building were sold at auction in 1954 before it was later demolished. A child can be seen peering out from under a curtain, next to the man’s leg. Photographs from this series were published in the Oregon Journal on Thursday, August 26, 1954 (negative 1 of 12).

Shively Opera house auction, Oregon City

People stand around an abandoned stage at the Shively Opera House in Oregon City. The contents of the building were sold at auction in 1954 before it was later demolished. An Oregon Journal helicopter hovering over the Public Market building in Portland, shortly after the Journal’s move from Jackson Tower. The building features two towers, with cars parked along the top. Demolished in 1969 to make way for S.W. Harbor Drive, the Market building housed the Oregon Journal from 1946 to 1961 (negative 3 of 3).

Old St. Davids Parish House, Portland

The old St. David’s Parish House in Portland, photographed next to a used car lot. The church was on East Morrison Street (now Southeast Morrison Street) in Portland, just east of the intersection with 12th Street (now Southeast 12th Avenue).
