Several dozen men in uniform lined up along the side of the road. The 2nd Oregon Volunteer Infantry Regiment was a military regiment recruited in Oregon during the Spanish–American War and the subsequent Philippine–American War. On May 25, 1898, the regiment embarked at San Francisco and sailed for the Philippines. The regiment sailed for home on June 14, 1899.

The man fourth from the left is Abbot Thomas Meier. Meier was abbot of Mt. Angel Abbey from 1934 to 1950. Behind them another group of men can be seen mingling in front of the building.

Close-up of six banknotes arranged in two columns and three rows: A five and ten note from The Kirkland Safety Society Bank, one of the first one dollar paper bills after the Legal Tender Act of 1862, and three banknotes from the Confederacy. Two smaller bills, a postage stamp sheet or advertisement & a fractional currency note, are tucked into the bottom row. In 1933, The Oregonian reported that Frank Coffman's collection of retired United States currency in its original value added up to $83,204. Coffman was a friend of Drake's and they appear in numerous newspaper articles in the 1930's.
