Attackted at Juan De Fuca Straits

An ink wash painting signed by George Davidson, the illustrator on Robert Gray’s second voyage on the Columbia Rediviva. The painting, titled,”Attackted at Juan De Fuca Straits,” depicts 17 canoes surrounding the Columbia Rediviva near shore in the Juan de Fuca Straits.

A portrait of an unidentified man. He is seated with his hands in his lap looking to the left of the camera. He wears a light colored suit. Conservator records indicate that there is a handwritten note on the green liner paper in the case which reads, "Taken in Hartford, Conn. 1846." The photograph is an ambrotype but my be a copy of a daguerreotype portrait.

Cased photograph featuring a portrait of Samuel Asahel Clarke, also known as S. A. Clarke. A handwritten note enclosed with the image reads, "S. A. Clarke, 25 years old, born 1828." A typed note enclosed with the image reads, "CLARKE, Samuel A. 25 years old." The words, "McIntyre, Broadway, NY" are stamped into the brass window mat. Case is made of leather.

Steamboat Multnomah

Cased photograph of the steamboat Multnomah in dock. Several crew members pose on the decks of the ship and on the dock. Handwritten label enclosed with the image reads, "Str. Multnomah." Legacy collection records indicate this dock was located at the foot of Alder Street in Portland, Oregon. The Multnomah operated on the Willamette and Yamhill Rivers. Case is made of wood and leather.

D. C. Coleman store

Cased photograph showing an exterior view of the D. C. Coleman store, located on the southeast corner of Oak and Front Street in Portland, Oregon. Several men stand in front of the store and 2 men shake hands near the front door. This was one of the first brick buildings constructed in Portland. Legacy collection records indicate this photograph was taken in 1853, the same year the building was constructed. Image has been removed from case and placed in archival board case.

Cased photograph of the steamboat Wallamet. The boat's captain can be seen behind the wheel and several other crew members pose on deck. A sign on the side of the boat reads, "U.S. Mail Wallamet." Typed label enclosed with the image reads, "Steamer Wallamet." Likely taken in Oregon on either the Willamette or Columbia Rivers. Case is made of wood and leather.

Case is made of leather. Case cover missing and replaced with archival board during conservation.

Fort Walla Walla, Washington Territory photograph

Photograph of Fort Walla Walla, taken on May 1st, 1859. The photograph was originally owned and may have been taken by Frederick Tracy Dent (1820-1892). Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Frederick Tracy Dent (1820-1892) served as a career military officer for the United States Army, and served as captain of the 9th United States Infantry at Fort Walla Walla from circa 1859-1860. Dent participated in the Spokane and Yakima expeditions, and engaged in the combat of "Four Lakes," and Spokane Plains. Dent was brother-in-law to Ulysses S. Grant. In 1859, Fort Walla Walla was part of the incorporated Washington Territories in Washington State.

Camp Day was a temporary military encampment established in the Klamath Basin in Southern Oregon during the summer and fall of 1860. The military expedition was a response to reports of potential conflicts between members of the Klamath and Modoc people and Euro-American settlers concerning land use and territorial rights.
