Hawkins, who christened the bus, is holding a large bouquet of flowers and the neck of a bottle wrapped in ribbon. Baker is holding one end of the ribbon. The ceremony celebrated the new Southern Pacific bus service to the Willamette Valley. The Oregon Journal published a short story, headlined “New Bus Line is Christened in Portland,” on Page 2 of its September 19, 1927, city edition.
