Crowd at Burnside Bridge dedication ceremony

Photograph of a crowd beginning to walk over the new Burnside Bridge in Portland during dedication festivities on May 28, 1926. A cropped version of this photograph was published on Page 3 of the Oregon Journal on May 29, 1926, with the following caption: "A scene snapped as the draw gates were opened and the crowd was allowed to pass over the structure for the first time." The photograph was one of several published together on Page 3 under the headline "Forces of Water and Land Join in Span Dedication."

Crowded Platform at the SP&S Boat Train

Photograph of a crowded railway platform next to an SP&S boat train. The boat train ran between Portland and Flavel, near Astoria, Oregon between 1915-1917. On the right, a crowd walks toward a building marked, "Great Northern Pacific S.S. Co." Glued to the back of the print is a caption that accompanied the photograph when the Oregonian published it on September 23, 1951. It reads, "Boat Train - For two years before U.S. entered first war, SP&S operated boat train to Flavel where steamers connected to San Francisco." The Oregonian published this in 1951 under the headline, "Service to Astoria Nears End." Another piece of paper glued to the back of the print reads, "Ry. Age -- News -- 2 cuts with extended caption -- Schmidt --Jan. 25, 1952. By Train to the Beach No More... Common Caption for two cuts: The once-heavily traveled line of the..."

People gathered outside a building to see Ed Sullivan at 1905 N.E. 41st Avenue in Portland, during his visit for the 1954 Portland Rose Festival. A large crowd can be seen at two sides of the building, under a sign that reads “Welcome to Hollywood Ed Sullivan” (negative 2 of 11).

Lena Matlock murder

Matlock, who walked into a local police headquarter shortly after. Awnings can be seen over the numbered apartments at the motor court, as people stand in a gravel parking area.
