View of Cape Horn across the river on the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge, taken from Bridal Veil, Oregon during the winter storm of 1884-1885. This plate is part of an album of Watkin’s New Series photographs originally owned by Charles H. Prescott, manager of the Oregon Railroad and Navigation Co.

View of the Tooth Bridge, part of the Oregon Steam Navigation Co.'s Oregon Portage Railroad in the Columbia River Gorge. The bridge crosses Eagle Creek in the distance. The calm waters of the Columbia River Channel reflect surrounding trees. Loose duplicate plate in 5/2. This plate is part of Carlton Watkin's "Sun Sketches of Columbia River Scenery" album.

A view of cable cars at the top of a hill in Portland, Oregon, circa 1895. The photograph is looking south on 18th Avenue from near Chapman (Jefferson) Street. A handwritten description on the back of the photograph reads, "Looking South on 18th from near Chapman (Jefferson) to Portland Hts (RHE 11-23-99)." A second, handwritten description which has been crossed out reads, "23rd Ave. Cable Car (from Burnside), 1895."

The cabin is surrounded by a field filled with stumps. Portland and the Willamette River are visible in the distance. The typed caption glued below the bristol board on the front of the photograph reads, "Portland, Oregon. 1857 or 1858. Taken By Lorenzo Lorain, U. S. A. Donated to Oregon Historical Society, 1946, by S. H. Lorain, Albany, Oregon." Handwritten captions on the back of the page read, "Portland, Oregon. Taken by Lt. Lorenzo Lorain, U.S.A. in 1857 or 1858. He Made his camera, prepared his plates, as well as the paper on which the print is made." and, "Portland, from south end, at about the foot of College Street."
