This oral history interview with Zennah M. Buse was conducted by Susan L. Smith in West Linn, Oregon, from January 15 to February 20, 1991. The interview was conducted in three sessions.

George Abernethy & Co. store in Oregon City, Oregon

Cased photograph showing an exterior view of the George Abernethy & Co. store in Oregon City, Oregon. Several men pose outside the store. A sign on the building reads, "Geo. Abernethy & Co. Wholesale Dealers." Other signs on the building advertise various goods such as boots, nails, crockery and powder. George Abernethy was the Provisional Governor of Oregon in the 1840's. Legacy collection records indicate this may be the first brick building built in the state of Oregon. Records also speculate that the photographer may have been either Joseph Buchtel, who had a photo studio on the second floor of the building in 1857, or Holland and Day, who had a photo studio across the street in 1858. Case is made of wood and leather.

Broadside of Western Defense Command instructions to all persons of Japanese ancestry

Broadside printed in green text detailing the provisions of Civilian Exclusion Order No. 46 issued by General J. L. Dewitt. It is directed towards Japanese Americans living in Clackamas and eastern Multnomah Counties. The notice reads that "all persons of Japanese ancestry, both alien and non-alien, will be evacuated from [all of Clackamas County and Multnomah County east of 122nd Avenue] by 12 o'clock noon, P.W.T., May 12, 1942." The notice contains instructions for how Japanese Americans should report to the Civil Control Station located on the Gresham Fairgrounds "to receive further instructions" between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM on either May 7th or May 8th, along with guidelines of what possessions they may or may not bring with them.

Children eat cookies and drink milk in the daycare center for Canby Day School

A group of children sit at a table, eating cookies and drinking milk. A little boy in the foreground turns around in his seat and looks at the camera. Several children in the background also look at the camera. They are in the daycare center of the Canby Day School, an adult education program run by the Valley Migrant League and the Canby School District in Canby, Oregon. Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) help run the center. Photographs from this series were published in the Valley Migrant League's Opportunity News on March 11, 1966.
