Robinson, Eudora E. (Carver)

Eudora Eliza Carver, born January 17, 1855, in Minnesota, the daughter of Elisha and Narcissa Carver. She married Merrill Adelbert Robinson, in 1884. She died in Fresno, California, in November 1926. Their children were: Veva, Luella, Orrin and Floy Robertson.

Marks, Velma Elizabeth

Velma Elizabeth Marks, born September 14, 1867, who married Edwin Clarence Roberts on September 14, 1887, in Linn County, Oregon. They had one son, Ray Harland, born in 1890. Elizabeth died February 23, 1892, in Linn County, and was buried in Lebanon.

Robbins, Marquis Lindsay

Marquis Lindsay Robbins, who came to Oregon in 1855 and settled in Dallas. He had been born December 20, 1820, in Henry County, Kentucky. He died June 22, 1906, and was buried on his donation land claim in Dallas. He was the oldest brother of J. H. Robbins.

Smith, F. A., 1830-1903

Rigdon, Catherine (Logan)

Catherine Logan, who married John Rigdon, a minister, and came to Oregon Territory in 1852. Her husband reportedly died of drinking water from a poisoned well, in 1859. They settled in Lane County.

Rees, Willard Hall

Willard Hall Rees, born September 17, 1819, in Dover, Delaware. He came overland to Oregon Territory in 1844. He took out a donation land claim in the French Prairie area, and married Amanda Hall, from Butteville, in 1847. Mr. Rees became the first secretary of the Oregon Pioneer Association and was an avid collector of historic manuscripts and stories. Unfortunately, his collection of manuscripts did not survive, due to the presence of mice in his home. He died in 1903 in Portland.

Raymond, Perry H.

Perry H. Raymond, born February of 1848 in Indiana, who arrived in Oregon in 1852. He married Edna Dickinson in Salem, on June 16, 1874. In later life, he worked as a bailiff at the Supreme Court of Oregon. He died October 28, 1924, in San Francisco.

Rainwater, Sarah Elizabeth (Emmett)

Sarah Elizabeth Emmett, born in December 1833, in Tennessee, to Daniel and Malinda (White) Emmett. She married Alexander M. Rainwater in Benton County, Oregon, in March 1852. They had at least six children and settled in Benton County, near Albany. After Alexander died, in 1890, she remarried Gustav Lindner. She died July 27, 1905, in Benton County.

Rainwater, Alexander Martin

Alexander Martin Rainwater, who was born in North Carolina on August 29, 1820. He arrived in Oregon, having come overland from Missouri, on October 25, 1847, and settled on a donation land claim in North Albany, Benton County. He was a farmer, a ferry operator, and had orchards. He married Sarah Elizabeth Emmett. They had at least six children: John, Daniel, William, Malinda, Aaron, and Anna (born 1864). Alexander died in 1890.

Quick, James

James Quick, born in Virginia in 1817, who came overland from the Midwest to Oregon in 1853, settling in Tillamook County. He had married Anna Pitzer in 1840 in Ohio. James was a shoemaker and farmer, and built two boats: "J. C. Champion" and "The Ellen," which was named after a daughter of theirs. He also served as Sheriff of Tillamook County during two periods. James is also credited with the building of Trask Mountain Road, and owned a hotel in Tillamook called the Quick House. He and Anna had nine children: Elizabeth Jane, William Washington, Rhonda Ann, Thaddeus, Martha Ellen, Amanda Louisa, Warren, Charles, and Nellie Marie.

Quackenbush, Edward

Edward Quackenbush, who was born in 1839 in New York. He came to San Francisco via the Horn as a young man and was educated in accounting. When the firm of Allen and Lewis, in Portland, was in need of a bookkeeper, he came to Portland and soon began work at the Ladd and Tilton Bank, where he was an eventual manager. He was very involved in in civic activities, being credited with having founded the Portland Chamber of Commerce and the Y. M. C. A. He is also largely credited with the organization of the first baseball team in the city. He married Anna Clarke Hasty (or Hastie) on September 5th, 1867, in Multnomah County. They had one son, Fred, who died several days before Edward, in 1928. Anna passed away at their summer home in Hood River, in 1911.

Putnam, Charles Frederick

Charles Frederick Putnam, born 1824 in Lexington, Kentucky. He and his brother, Nathan, came to Oregon in 1846 with the hope of improving Nathan's health, but he passed away upon arrival. Charles had been well educated in the printer's trade in Kentucky. He taught in one of the first schools in Polk County. On December 28, 1847, he married Rozelle Applegate, the eldest daughter of Jesse Applegate. He and his wife printed the Oregon American and the Evangelical Unionist for a short time, and he set type for the Oregon Spectator. In 1849, he left for the California mines and, upon his return, took out a donation land claim at Elk Creek, near Drain, Oregon. He remained there for the rest of his life, passing away on September 25, 1903. He and Rozelle (who died in May of 1861) had eight children, seven of whom survived him.

Pullen, Mary Ann (Hill)

Mary Ann Hill (left), daughter of Daniel Webster and Rebecca (Thornton) Hill, who was born in Iowa in 1853. She later married Albert Scott Pullen on January 3, 1872, in Multnomah County. The other young woman pictured may have been a close friend of hers. Mary's younger sister, Alice, was six years her junior and would not seem to fit this image. Mary's younger brothers were Leven and Thomas.

Protzman, Kate D. (Lyle)

Kate Drew Lyle, born in 1854 in Pennsylvania, who married Eugene C. Protzman in 1876, and resided in Portland. Her husband worked with his brother (F. C. Protzman)at a boot and shoe store, Protzman and DeFrance, located at Third and Alder. Kate and Eugene had three daughters, Edna E., Margaret L., and Kate Lyle Protzman.

Helen Elder, who was born in Illinois in 1848 and was the daughter of Reverend Alfred R. Elder. She married Frederick Prosch on January 1, 1869, in Olympia, Washington Territory.

Prince, Mary Slavin

Mary Frances Slavin, born November 25, 1853, the daughter of John and Emma (Ross) Slavin. She married Richard C. Prince on February 2, 1879, in Portland. She died in June 1936.
