Part of Al Monner news negatives
The Hawthorne bridge during construction of new access ramps on the bridge's west end. The far lane of the roadway has been removed and there is a steep drop-off to the ground below. A wooden picket barrier separates motorists driving on the remaining lanes from the edge of the construction area. This photograph was published in the Oregon Journal on July 2, 1958 with an article about citizens concerns about the safety of the barriers at the construction site (negative 4 of 4).
