Wartime industry, activities, and events

Photographs related to industrial, patriotic, and civil defense activities and events in Portland, Oregon during World War I and World War II. The bulk of these photographs were taken from 1942 to 1945 and depict people and activities at the Albina Engine & Machine Works shipyard. Other photographs document troops marching in a War Activities parade in April 1918; a visit by Charles M. Schwab and Charles Piez of the Emergency Fleet Corporation in July 1918; and a ceremony to present an Army-Navy "E" Award for wartime production to an unidentified organization between 1942 and 1945.

They are holding their sticks and wearing sweaters with the words "Spalding Aces" on the chest, along with skates and pads. On the far left is a man wearing a hat, suit, and overcoat; on the far right is a man wearing a hat and a sweater with a letter on the chest that may be a "C" or a "G."

The photographs also document events and activities, including the Marian Congress, held in Portland from August 12-15, 1934, at the Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful Mother (The Grotto) in Portland; processions at St. Mary's Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, both in Portland; and baptism ceremonies in the Columbia River.
