A cropped version of this photo was one of four, including image No. 371N6206, that was published on Page 2 of the Oregon Journal on Monday, August 18, 1930. The photographs were published under the headline “When Rankins Took Off on Attempt at Record.” The photographs accompanied the continuation of a front-page story about the attempt.
