Photograph of Portland City Commissioner Bigelow presenting pilot Tex Rankin with a bronze clock on September 22, 1928, after Rankin’s return from a national air race from New York to Los Angeles. On September 23, 1928, the Oregon Journal published a Page 3 story about Rankin’s return, headlined “Rankin and Jinx Cat Back Home; Everybody Glad.” The Journal reported that Rankin placed fifth in the race.
