Photograph of an invitation to B. L. Stone to attend the cornerstone laying for the new Oregon State Capitol in October 1873. The following text is printed on the invitation: “Ceremony of Laying the Corner Stone / OF THE / NEW STATE CAPITOL. / The Committee of Arrangements respectfully solicit the honor of your presence, at the Ceremony of Laying the Corner Stone of the New State Capitol, / In Salem, Oregon. Wednesday, the Eighth day of October, Eighteen Hundred and Seventy-Three. / L. F. Grover / GOVERNOR. / Committee of Invitations. / John F. Miller, Henry Klippel, Samuel Allen.” Below that is the emblem of the Committee of Arrangements between two columns of names. The names in the left column are: “Joseph Holman. / George W. Gray. / Warner Breyman. / B. F. Brown. / John H. Moores. / A. J. Monroe. / R. C. Kinney.” The names in the right column are: “J. J. Murphy. / S. Durbin. / John W. Gilbert. / John Wright. / J. W. Weatherford. / B. F. Bonham. / Wm. S. Ladd.” Below the emblem and columns of names is the text “S. F. Chadwick, Secretary of State.” At the bottom of the invitation, next to the word “To,” is the following handwritten text: “B. L. Stone, Esq. / per W. G. Gilbert. Archts.”
